Dallas Barnes is a retired Los Angeles
Police Department detective who worked both narcotics and homicide in Southwest Area (Station 3, previously University Division).
Barnes wrote three novels in the mid-70s featuring various members of the Southwest Divisional detective squad, "SEE
THE WOMAN," BADGE OF HONOR, and YESTERDAY IS DEAD. The he sold a script to TV and wasn't heard from in bookstores
for years. In the '80s he returned with three more books, DEADLY JUSTICE, a fourth Southwest novel, CITY OF PASSION, a
stand-alone set in the Valley that was adapted into a special 3-part episode, and FREEDOM DANCE, a combination cop/spy novel
based on an actual defection case in which LAPD was involved.
One reader of Freedom Dance said, “"Freedom
Dance" is an extraordinary tale of incredible faith in God, and His awesome power. In it, two Russian dancers who wished
to defect to America, asked a couple that they don't even know to help them. The couple hesitated, but felt led by God
to help, and so they went out on a limb to help the Russians. This is a very fast-paced, well written TRUE story. I HIGHLY
recommend it!”
According to the book description of Deadly Justice,
“in the sprawling heat of the city of angels, an avenger lurks. Saturday: midnight: a routine homicide
call. But the dead man was a prime murder suspect—shot by a sniper. Suddenly, maverick Detectives Fox and Hollister
are caught in a violent, whirlwind investigation that threatens to blow the lid off the department—and destroy what's
left of their careers
As the vigilante's hit list grows,
the heat comes down from the top: get the man who's snuffing LA.'s pimps and pushers, no matter what it takes. In
a blistering novel of crime and punishment, former L.A.P.D. detective Dallas Barnes takes us inside the raw, explosive world
of homicide—into the gut-wrenching chases, the fierce squad room rivalries, and the crushing pressure to catch a man
with his own insane license to kill.”
